Job Description
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor on Japanese regulatory matters, including financial services regulations, licensing, AML/CFT, data privacy, and related compliance requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
- Partner with investment and operations teams to structure, negotiate, and execute transactions across real estate, credit, private equity, and other alternative asset classes.
- Advise on investment opportunities throughout the transaction lifecycle, including due diligence, risk assessment, structuring, and documentation.
- Support fund platforms and management entities across Japan and the region, working closely with global legal and compliance teams to promote best practices and consistency.
- Manage relationships with external counsel and oversee the delivery of high-quality legal advice on transactional, regulatory, and governance matters.
- Provide ongoing legal support for portfolio investments, including restructurings, governance matters, operational issues, and dispute management.
- Monitor regulatory and legal developments and provide practical, commercially focused guidance to business stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, external advisors, business partners, and portfolio companies.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, risk, ESG, finance, and investment teams globally to identify and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.
- Engage regularly with senior leadership, translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable business advice.
