Job Description:
We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support the Japanese investment management business, a key growth priority. The successful candidate will act as the primary legal advisor for the business, guiding senior executives and supporting operational and strategic initiatives.
This role is part of a global legal team of over 500 professionals, including 60 legal experts dedicated to investment management across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal support for the central business team of the Japanese entity and its affiliated or external service providers.
- Serve as an advisor to governance committees overseeing fund investment activities and administrative operations.
- Draft and maintain key documentation, including trust instruments, fund declarations, and client agreements.
- Collaborate with Compliance to draft, update, and implement policies and procedures related to investment management, fund administration, and distribution.
- Participate in cross-border and interdisciplinary legal initiatives, coordinating with regional and global colleagues on time-sensitive matters.
- Advise on and assist with the implementation of new product and service initiatives.

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) and licensed to practice law in Japan.
- 5-7 years of relevant legal experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Japanese.
- Critical analytical skills and the ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory environments.
- Experience interacting with senior decision-makers.
